MUMBAI: A waiter at a three-star hotel near PVR Cinema in Andheri (East) succumbed on the spot on Friday after the hotel’s cook stabbed him over a tiff over some changes made in a customer order the previous night.
After stabbing Jagdish Jalal (42), the accused Madhav Mandal (27) fled from the hotel and waited in the hotel compound till the MIDC police arrived around 8.20am and took him into custody.
Mandal from Bhayander and Jalal, a Uttarakhand resident, was employed in the hotel for over a year. This is the first time they had a serious fight on the hotel premise ever since they started working together. The hotel staff told the cops that the two had a fight at around 1am over a customer order.
They were stopped after they had a heated argument. However, the two again had a fight over the same matter at around 8.10am.
“In a spurt of a moment, Mandal rushed into the kitchen and returned with a knife. Before anyone could react he stabbed Jalal’s chest. He died on the spot because of the injury suffered in his heart,” said MIDC police inspector Deepak Surve.
Surve said Mandal did not flee from the hotel and was found sitting in the hotel compound waiting for the police to surrender. “Mandal said he lost his temper over the continuous orders that he received and suddenly one of customers asked to change the order this led to the fight between him and the victim,” he said.
Mandal has been booked for murder under the IPC section.
