MUMBAI: A woman, with whom a businessman was in an illicit relationship, has been arrested for allegedly getting him abducted from his office in Sion with the help of two bouncers after the businessman failed to pay the woman Rs 5 lakh which she was allegedly demanding.
The police on Thursday arrested Sanjana Rathod (22) and the two bouncers – Ajay Jadhav (27) and Foreman Saini (23) – under IPC sections of kidnapping, wrongful confinement and extortion. The three have been sent to police custody, said senior inspector of Dharavi police station Vijay Khandalgoankar.
The businessman, S Gaikwad from Dombivli, who is into manufacturing of labels, has lodged a complaint that he got acquainted with the woman, Sanjana Rathod (22).
Gaikwad had a physical relationship with the woman. “Gaikwad told the police that he used to regularly pay her but Sanjana demanded more money and had recently asked him to pay up Rs 5 lakh after which he cut off all ties with her. She started calling him from various cellphone numbers and threatened him to come and meet her,” said a police officer.
On July 18, when Gaikwad was at his office, Sanjana, along with two bouncers, arrived at Gaikwad’s factory in Sion, and the two bouncers started beating him up.
The two bouncers, allegedly at Sanjana’s behest, stripped him and later bundled him into a car and took him to a flat in Thane where they confined him, beat him up and demanded that he pay the money.
Gaikwad has said that the following day, they took him to an ATM by cab where they made him transfer Rs 60,000 and then took me to his house in Dombivli. He then went to his house while Sanjana and the two bouncers waited for him downstairs.
Gaikwad has also told the police that he brought gold jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh from the safe in the house while his wife was not at home and handed it over to Sanjana and promised to pay the balance in two days after which the three alleged abductors left.
Gaikwad then registered an FIR. “Based on the complaint and technical help, we traced the accused, Sanjana Rathod and the two bouncers,” said Khandalgaonkar.”
