MUMBAI: NM Joshi Marg police on Thursday arrested the manager of a Thai spa that was allegedly running a prostitution racket under the banner of a massage parlour in Highstreet Phoenix mall at Lower Parel. Arrested accused Sanjay Kumar Amarnath Singh had made the lease agreement of the premises. Police said they are looking for the proprietor Sujay Sarkar, who runs the chain of spas in the city.
Police had claimed to have busted a prostitution racket with the arrest of five persons, including four customers, and rescued six Thai women from the premises. The four customers, who were booked under various sections of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act, were remanded to police custody till Friday. “Considering the theory of exploitation of rescued victims from Thailand, arrested accused cannot be given clean chit at this stage of remand…” SS Ghare, metropolitan magistrate of Mazgaon, said.
