Mumbai: Many BMC teachers fear being reshuffled – Times of India

MUMBAI: The BMC education department has begun collecting data of its primary school teachers who fear being reshuffled to fill vacant posts. Teachers said all civic schools are short-staffed and they may face reshuffling from one medium to another.
As per civic data, for 2022-23, there are 6,435 primary teachers, a shortage of 788. Mumbai Public Schools (MPS) teaching non-state board curriculum (CBSE, ICSE, IB) has a 30% shortage of teachers-533 as against 755.
BMC decided to keep the 30% posts permanently vacant and reshuffle teachers from other schools and mediums to MPS. For English medium schools (state board), 980 teachers are required, but there is a shortage of 95. For Marathi medium schools, there is a 20% shortage.
The 259 posts will be permanently vacant and teachers from other Marathi medium schools will be reshuffled.
