MUMBAI: After more than three months, the city recorded 11 Covid-19 deaths in a week.
Mumbai, on the bright side, reported a drop in cases for the second consecutive day despite registering 2,000 cases. On Saturday, 2,054 cases and two deaths were reported in Mumbai.
Between June 12 and 18, 11 deaths have occurred due to Covid-19 in Mumbai. On Saturday, a 90-year-old man with hypertension and diabetes and a 54-year-old man with hypertension and chronic kidney disease were the latest casualties in the city.
The corresponding weekly toll for Maharashtra was 17. On Saturday, after three days of registering over 4,000 cases, Maharashtra reported 3,883 cases.
“The rising trend may stop in a few days and the daily tally will start dropping next week or fortnight,” said Dr Rahul Pandit, a member of the state government’s Covid task force. He said the Omicron wave in January was around four weeks long. “As the main variant in circulation is still Omicron, the pattern should be similar.”
Meanwhile, the BMC plans to increase testing and contact tracing in a few wards. The wards of concern include A (Colaba), H-West (Bandra), M-West (Chembur), M East (Govandi), L (Kurla) and D (Grant Road).
