Mumbai’s first skywalk to be rebuilt soon – Times of India

MUMBAI: The Bandra (E) skywalk, built in 2008, is being dismantled by BMC to make way for a new one.
The 1. 3km skywalk was the first of its kind facility to be built for the comfort of pedestrians. However, it has remained underutilized because of the circuitous route.
Already parts of the skywalk have been cut to facilitate the construction of a flyover as part of Kalanagar junction improvement project.
Pedestrians fear that as this place is already crowded with passengers there is a possibility of an accident.
Satish Thosar, chief engineer of the civic bridges department, said that considering the huge pedestrian movement in the area, the skywalk is being dismantled at night. “We plan to begin reconstruction of the skywalk from next month,” said Thosar.
