Mumbai News Updates: Continuing with its drive against single-use plastic in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) seized 2 lakh kg of the banned material and collected Rs 5.36 crore as penalty amount from hawkers, restaurants, shops and other establishments between June 2018 and January 2022.

The government had banned the use of disposable plastic, including plastic bags, cups, spoons, plates and tiffin containers, among others, in March 2018.

Commuters are now returning to Mumbai’s local trains, nearly two years after the pandemic triggered a virtual abandonment of the country’s largest suburban transport network. The latest government numbers, The Indian Express has learnt, show that the average daily ridership has crossed 60 lakh — this is the highest since the resumption of full-fledged services. Meanwhile, Mumbai on Saturday recorded 29 cases and zero deaths, news agency ANI reported. There are 315 active patients in the city now.
