A day after Lata Mangeshkar was cremated at Shivaji Park, the BJP raised the demand for a memorial in her name at Shivaji Park. “This request is from her fans, music lovers and her well-wishers,” BJP MLA and spokesperson Ram Kadam said in his letter to the chief minister. MPCC chief Nana Patole, too, said a memorial of international standards should be built here. Local residents, however, are against the proposal. “It is a playground, other permanent uses should not be permitted,” said Ashok Rawat, one of the residents. The Shiv Sena, too, opposed the idea. “Lata didi was a precious treasure of this country. Don’t play politics on it. It is not easy to build her memorial as she was not a politician,” said Sena MP and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut.
