Mumbai: No dengue, H1N1 and chikungunya in January so far – Times of India

MUMBAI: The city registered zero cases of dengue, chikungunya and H1N1 in the first 10 days of the year, as per BMC.
In December 2021, 40 cases of dengue and 12 of chikungunya were registered. Both viral infections registered a comeback after the second Covid wave ebbed in June, with 876 cases of dengue in 2021.
Chikungunya, which emerged after two years in Mumbai, saw 80 cases in 2021.
Infectious diseases specialist Dr Anita Mathew from Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, “Other viral fevers disappear as Covid becomes dominant. We saw this in 2020 and it is the same story now.”
But from January 1-9, the city had 43 cases of malaria, 96 of gastroenteritis and seven of hepatitis.
No deaths have been registered due to any of the infectious diseases (apart from Covid) so far this year, said BMC officials.
