Two Mumbai cops die of Covid-19 within 48 hours, 523 infected in eight days – Times of India

MUMBAI: An assistant sub-inspector Mahendra Singh Bhati (57) with the motor vehicle department in Nagpada was the second to die of Covid-19 on Saturday, taking the death toll to 125 in the Mumbai Police force.
In the last eight days, a total of 523 police personnel were infected. The total active cases in the police department are 523 till January 8.
Bhati worked as a driver to a senior officer in the MV department and stayed at a police camp in Goregaon. “Bhati was rushed to Lilavati hospital after he complained of chest pain at around 3am on Saturday. He died at around 5.12am,” said a police officer. Bhati was to retire from the police force on April 30.
The Covid report showed that a total of 161 personnel were infected for the first time in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, a total of 34 personnel were infected more than one time.
Out of the total 40,713 police personnel in Mumbai Police force, 39,086 of them have been vaccinated with the first dose while a total of 35,697 have been fully vaccinated. Only 4 per cent (1,628) and 12.32 per cent (5,070) are yet to get their first and second jabs respectively.
