Mumbai Live News: Aaditya Thackeray anticipates that Covid-19 cases will cross the tally of 2000 per day. He shared that last week the state was reporting 150 cases per day, now it is reporting 2000 cases per day.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Wednesday expressed concern regarding surge in active Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra. He called it an alarming situation and urged people and authorities to follow precautionary measures to ensure safety from Covid-19. According to him, cases in last week stood between the range of 5,000-6,000.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday submitted a prosecution complaint (supplementary chargesheet) against former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh in the money-laundering case filed in connection with alleged bribes collected from bar owners. Deshmukh was arrested on November 2 by the ED. The central agency had claimed that he was the primary beneficiary of laundering done on the bribe money allegedly collected by dismissed cop Sachin Waze, named as an accused in the previous chargesheet.

Sindhudurg police on Wednesday issued a notice to Union minister Narayan Rane to present his MLA son Nitesh Rane before them in connection with an attempt to murder case in which the latter and others have been named as accused. 
          
Narayan Rane was also asked to be present at Kankavli police station in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra at 3 pm to record his statement in connection with the case, but he did not appear at the given time, following which police pasted the notice at his residence there, police sources said. 
        
According to the notice, issued under section 160 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the minister has been asked to share information related to the case with police after getting the notice. His son has been named in the FIR, which was registered under Indian Penal Code Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) and he was not traceable after various attempts made by police, the notice mentioned. 
        
In the notice to the Union minister, the police also referred to a statement made by him in a press conference on Tuesday where he had said that “was he a fool” to reveal the whereabouts of his son. (PTI)

According to Aaditya Thackeray, since last week we were reporting 150 cases per day, now the state is reporting around 2000 cases per day. Mumbai may cross 2000 per day cases today.

In the letter he sent to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray Tuesday, Maharashtra Governor B S Koshiyari said he was “pained” and “dismayed” over the “intemperate tone and threatening tenor” of a note sent to him by the state government over selection of the Speaker, and said it denigrated the high office he held.

The government had written to Koshiyari asking that elections be allowed by voice vote for the post of the Speaker, which has been vacant since the resignation of the Congress’s Nana Patole. After Koshiyari turned down the request in the letter sent on Tuesday – contents of which were revealed Wednesday – the election was cancelled. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said they had done so keeping in mind the prestige of the Raj Bhavan, and that they would meet the Governor again with their request. Read more

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Wednesday expressed concern over the rise in the number of fresh as well as active COVID-19 cases in the state, and termed it as an ‘alarming situation’. Talking to reporters here, Tope urged people and authorities to exercise caution. 
        
He said in the last 8-10 days, the active cases in the state stood in the range of 5,000-6,000. On Tuesday, the state had 11,492 active cases. On Wednesday, the number of active cases could rise over 20,000, he said. 
         
On Tuesday, Maharashtra reported 2,172 fresh coronavirus cases, up by 50 per cent from 1,426 infections recorded a day before, and 22 new deaths, the health department earlier said. With these additions, the state’s COVID-19 tally rose to 66,61,486, while the death toll increased to 1,41,476, it said. (PTI)

For the year 2020-21, the state has collected Goods and Services Tax (GST) worth Rs 69,948.56 crore, lesser than the Rs 82601.59 crore collected the previous year, registering a decrease of 15 per cent.

This is as per the state finance accounts report (2020-21) tabled in Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

The state received Rs 10,894.03 crore as its share under the Central GST tax, the report said. It added that the total receipts under GST was Rs 80842.59 crore. The state received compensation worth Rs 17423.37 crore on account of loss of revenue arising out of implementation of GST during 2020-21.

Three pedestrians were killed when a truck going in reverse knocked them down on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway here on Tuesday morning, police said. The incident took place on Navle Bridge in Narhe area, said a police official. While the three victims died on the spot, the truck driver and his assistant ran away, leaving the vehicle behind. The deceased were identified as Hemant Talele, Nitin Dhawale and Chetan Solanki.

The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly was prorogued on Tuesday at the end of the five-day winter session of the state legislature here. The Budget session will be held in Nagpur, the second capital of the state, from February 28, Deputy speaker Narhari Zirwal announced.

He read out the prorogation order of Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Traditionally, the winter session is held in Nagpur, but it was held in Mumbai in 2020 and again this year citing the COVID-19 pandemic.  

No new case of the Omicron variant of coronavirus was reported in Maharashtra on Tuesday, while 91 of the patients previously infected by the strain have recovered, the state health department said.

The state has so far reported 167 cases of Omicron of which 91 patients have recovered, the health department added. Of the 167 cases, Mumbai has reported the highest at 84, followed by Pimpri- Chinchwad (19), Pune rural (17), Pune and Thane municipal corporations (seven each).

The Maharashtra Legislative Council was on Tuesday adjourned sine die as the winter session of the legislature ended. The Council functioned for five days. Chairman Ramraje Nimbalkar adjourned the house sine die, and announced that the budget session will start in Nagpur on February 28. The term of six members of the council also came to an end. These members are: Ramdas Kadam, Gopikishan Bajoria, Bhai Jagtap, Arunkaka Jagtap, Girish Vyas and Prashant Paricharak.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Road Development Authority (MMRDA), which is constructing the 21.7-km-long Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) over the sea between Navi mumbai and south Mumbai, will launch the first Orthotropic Steel Deck (OSD) on the sealink in the first week of January 2022.

MMRDA metropolitan commissioner SVR Srinivas reviewed the preparation work for the launch of an Orthotropic Steel Deck span (OSD) from the Package-1 site (in Sewri) on Tuesday.

31 girls of Nav Gurukul training center in Flora Institute of Technology, Kusgaon, are hospitalised due to food poisoning, news agency ANI tweeted. Students had food at a party on 25th December and were complaining about bad health since yesterday, said Vishal Tanpure BDO, Bhor Tehsil, Pune. All students are stable and are under observation.

The Maharashtra govt on Tuesday deferred its decision to hold the election of the state Legislative Assembly Speaker after a legal opinion to avoid confrontation with the Raj Bhavan. The election will be held in the next session of the state legislature. 

The Speaker’s post is vacant since February after Nana Patole, who was elected to the constitutional position, resigned to take charge as the state Congress chief. Today is the last day of the ongoing winter session of the Maharashtra assembly.

Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole on Tuesday said the state government should take serious note of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s remark that 40 villages from Jat tehsil in the border district of Sangli were welcome to join the southern state.
          
Speaking on a point of information in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Patole said the state government needs to understand what problems these villages are facing. 
        
“Bommai has spoken about it in the Karnataka Assembly and we need to take it seriously. He also said Karnataka will not part with even an inch of Belagavi and other Marathi-dominated areas in that state,” the Congress leader said. (PTI)

Amid the ongoing tussle between the Maharashtra government and the Raj Bhavan over the issue of state Assembly Speaker’s election, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Tuesday said the governor is not appointed to reject the rights of the legislature and government’s recommendations. In sarcastic remarks, Raut also said the Maharashtra governor seemed too studious and this could cause him “indigestion”.

“If the governor is acting contradictory to his constitutional duties, then the state will have to take some political steps as well,” the Shiv Sena’s chief spokesperson said.

The Maharashtra cabinet on Monday expressed concern over the rising Covid-19 cases in the state and stressed on the need to expedite the pace of vaccination and effective steps to curb the spread of coronavirus, whose new variant Omicron is causing fresh worries.

The number of active cases has increased by nearly 50 per cent in the last 20 days, the cabinet was told at its meeting. As on December 26, the state had 9,813 active cases of the infectious disease. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who virtually joined the meeting held in Vidhan Bhavan in south Mumbai, asked for a meeting of state COVID-19 task force in a day or two to review the prevailing coronavirus situation.

Mumbai on Monday reported 809 Covid-19 cases and three deaths. taking the tally in the metropolis to 7,71,921 and the toll to 16,373, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said. The day’s addition was a fall from the 922 cases reported on Sunday, he pointed out.

The recovery count increased to 7,48,199 after 335 people were discharged during the day, leaving Mumbai with 4,765 active cases, he said. With 43,383 samples being examined in the last 24 hours, the number of tests in the country’s financial capital went up to 1,34,92,241, BMC data showed.
