A joint venture between state-owned Indian Railway Construction International and private company Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon will design and build an 18km stretch of rail between Anand and Sabarmati for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor.

The new Ahmedabad station will be integrated into the Saraspur side of the existing Ahmedabad station, above platforms 11 and 12. A new Sabarmati station will be integrated into the planned Sabarmati Passenger Hub.

Construction of the stations will include green features such as water conservation.

Last month, India’s National High Speed Railway Corporation issued a tender for the construction of a 21km-long tunnel for the corridor. And in 2020, Indian contractor Larsen & Toubro (L&T) won a contract to build a 237km stretch of the high speed line.

It was also reported in 2020 that the corridor would be hit by a $4.5bn cost hike.

When completed, the 508km link will have trains running at up to 320km/h between 12 stations.
