Mumbai’s reinstated disgraced cop is ousted again – Times of India

MUMBAI: Taking note of TOI’s report on the reinstatement of police inspector Anand Bhoir, who was caught by the ACB in 2019 allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 22 lakh, the home department has set aside his reinstatement.
TOI had on July 14 published a report titled ‘Mumbai police inspector caught taking Rs 22L bribe gets job back’. Bhoir was reinstated and posted in the control room of the eastern region until TOI reported about it.
Mumbai police on November 4 issued a notice, stating Bhoir’s reinstatement has been cancelled and that his dismissal order would continue under section 25 of Bombay Police Act, 1951.
Bhoir still has the option of going to MAT against order
A senior officer said Bhoir can still approach Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal (MAT) and appeal against the order.
On January 1, 2019, inspector Anand Bhoir, then posted with crime branch, was arrested by the ACB for allegedly accepting Rs 22 lakh from a liquor shop owner. He had threatened to book Patel’s son and demanded the bribe. “Considering allegations levelled against inspector Anand Sitaram Bhoir, in connection with what he did while on duty, the fact that allegations are being proved… and that strong evidence has been found, permission has been given to file charges. By revoking the government order, the disciplinary authority and commissioner of police have been ordered to remove Bhoir from service,” the order states.
In April, Bhoir was dismissed. After his appeal, the home department reviewed his file and cancelled the stay order. Sources said he was dismissed after a departmental inquiry found him guilty of tweaking the police investigation to benefit the accused and himself monetarily.
