Mumbai: Suburban services to operate at 100 per cent capacity from October 28 – Times of India

MUMBAI: For the first time since March 22, 2020 railways have decided to operate 100 percent services on suburban section of both Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR) from October 28.
Presently, CR and WR are running 1702 and 1304 suburban services on Mumbai division of CR and WR respectively which is 95.70 per cent of its total suburban services.
CR’s chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar said, “From October 28, CR and WR will run 1774 and 1367 services, respectively.”
At present WR carries 18 lakh passengers per day as compared 35 lakh before Covid. On CR, 25 lakh passengers travel now as against 45 lakh in pre-Covid times.
After prime minister Narendra Modi announced nationwide lockdown suburban train services were suspended for first time on March 22, 2020. Thereafter, limited number of services commenced from June 15, 2020 for those categorised by state government as essential service workers
The categories of commuters who were allowed by the state government and approved by Ministry of Railways were subsequently enlarged. Maharashtra government allowed permission to fully vaccinated passengers who had completed 14 days since taking second dose to travel in local trains from August 15, 2021.
Sutar said, “Only categories identified by state government and also as per the SOP released by them are permitted to travel.
