Mumbai News Live Updates: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said Friday that all places of worship in the city will be allowed to reopen with 50 per cent occupancy from October 7. Last week, the Maharashtra government had announced that all places of worship in the state will be allowed to reopen starting October 7, the first day of Navratri. The state government had said all religious places will have to follow strict safety protocols.

Meanwhile, a temporary facility for parking a prototype train for the 33.5-km trial run of Metro 3 corridor (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ) will be set up adjacent to the earlier controversial Aarey Metro car shed area. The temporary facility will come up at Sariput Nagar in Aarey, where a ramp is being constructed to connect the underground part of the corridor with the surface, which will allow trains to enter the tunnel. The facility will come up opposite the ramp.

In other news, cyclone Gulab has affected 30 lakh hectares of agricultural land in Maharashtra, according to the state government’s primary assessment. Agriculture Minister Dadasaheb Bhuse said, “Our primary assessment is that crop loss is already over 30 lakh hectares. However, once the ground assessment is done, we will get the exact results. From what emerges, the agricultural land affected by the cyclone is likely to increase.”

Mumbai reported 418 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths on Friday. It took the tally of cases to 7,43,414 and death toll to 16,116. 39,406 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative number of tests to 1,03,92,389. The city now has 4,810 active Covid-19 cases as 360 recovered patients were discharged from hospitals on Friday.
