Maharashtra: Rain subsides, but likely to pick up pace next week – Times of India

MUMBAI: Rains eased out in the city on Thursday after a wet spell which had set in since the beginning of the week. However, weather officials said that the rain activity is once again expected to pick pace next week owing to a low-pressure area that is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal.
The IMD has issued a green alert till Sunday indicating only moderate rains. However, for Monday a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad has been issued indicating heavy rains at isolated places.
On Thursday, clear skies were observed through the day with meagre rains recorded. The IMD Colaba observatory in the nine hours ending 5.30 pm recorded 1 mm of rains while the Santacruz observatory recorded no rainfall. This season, 2983.7mm rain has been recorded in the city, which is 842.4 mm above normal.
Meanwhile, total water stocks in the lakes meeting Mumbai’s needs stand at 14.31 lakh million litres or 98.87% of the required quantity. The useful water content in the biggest lake meeting Mumbai’s needs stands at over 99%.
