Intel partners SINE-IIT Bombay form Plugin alliance to promote hardware manufacturing in India – Economic Times

Intel India, Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE) at IIT-Bombay and over 50 other organisations have joined to form Plugin alliance, a collaborative programme to promote companies that make locally built products in Industry 4.0 areas including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Vision, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Robotics, Cyber Security, 5G & Edge, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) & Mobility

“India, almost got synonymous to software, you know, for a company like Intel. While software is a very critical piece, the other half (of systems) is also important. In this system, the embedded software, the drivers, (components) that goes with the computer based solution (is also needed),” Nivruti Rai, country head, Intel India, and vice president, Intel Foundry Services told ET.

The Alliance brings together members representing large enterprises, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), technology solution providers, systems integrators, startups, the startup ecosystem including funding partners, relevant incubators, government and industry bodies. The Alliance’s roadmap includes collaborating with other global bodies focused on Industry 4.0. The Alliance currently has 53 members including 25 startups.

Intel, Rai said, is already working with Indian companies to build components locally that go into its products.

The chipmaker is already sourcing over a million Wi-Fi modules a year that goes into its products from an Indian company.

“This is the kind of ecosystem we require. And I also believe this alliance the Plugin Alliance will then be enabling India to build this kind of ecosystem,” said Rai.
