Mumbai: Aruna Pai appointed as new public prosecutor at Bombay high court – Times of India

MUMBAI: Bombay high court on Tuesday got a new public prosecutor in advocate Aruna Pai.
It was the last day for Deepak Thakare, who was the public prosecutor for the last few years and worked right through the pandemic.
The state government did not continue his extension. He has been a public prosecutor since 2017 at the high court.

Deepak Thakare was a public prosecutor since 2017.

He was there in the hearing via video conferencing of Sudha Bharadwaj’s default bail plea on Tuesday before the high court and in all the ongoing matters of quashing petitions filed by the state and Anil Deshmukh against CBI, and bail applications by Elgar Parishad accused, Vara Vara Rao as well as the late Fr Stan Swamy.
Pai, who was the additional public prosecutor and has appeared for the state in numerous appeals in serious crimes, took charge on Tuesday evening.
“It was a surprise for me. I was informed that I have been appointed as Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor on the Appellate Side,” she told TOI.
Her name was also in one of the three women lawyers recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium in March to be appointed as Bombay high court Judges.
