Mumbai News LIVE: Maharashtra’s COVID-19 case tally crosses 60-lakh mark

Mumbai on Thursday (June 24) reported 789 new coronavirus cases and 10 fatalities that raised the tally of infections to 7,24,113 and the death toll to 15,348, the latest data shared by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) showed. The active cases have increased marginally to 14,810 in the financial capital of the country. On Wednesday, the city had reported 863 new coronavirus cases, 23 deaths, 711 recoveries and had 14,577 active cases of the infection. The BMC has collected over Rs 58 crore in fines from people who were found without face masks in public places since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. As per the latest figures till June 23, the amount of Rs 58,42,99,600 is collected inclusive of fines imposed by Mumbai Police and the Railways. With the addition of 9,844 new COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra on Thursday, the state’s cumulative infection count crossed the grim milestone of 60 lakh, while 197 patients succumbed to the infection.
