Mumbai News LIVE: City sees 1,431 new infections, 49 fatalities

Mumbai on Sunday reported 1,431 new coronavirus cases, taking the city’s total caseload to 6,97,810. On Sunday, the data shared by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) showed that 23,314 tests were conducted. There were 49 fatalities on Sunday, and with this, the death toll reached 14,623. The financial capital of the country hosts 28,410 active cases of the disease. Maharashtra recorded 26,672 new coronavirus cases, taking the state’s COVID-19 tally to 55,79,897. There are 3,48,395 active cases in the state. All vaccination centres in Mumbai and Thane remained closed on Sunday. Mumbai is gearing up for a potential third COVID-19 wave that experts fear could affect children. Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday interacted with the government-appointed task force and doctors to prepare for the possible third wave. The third wave might not affect children greatly, but the state government is building COVID care centres (CCCs) with paediatric units, pediatric ICUs and high dependency units across the city for children infected with COVID-19 and is working closely with a special task force that includes some of the best paediatricians.Read Less
