Covid-19: Railways cancels several trains from Mumbai till June-end – Times of India

MUMBAI: Central Railway (CR) has cancelled 26 pairs of trains, including 15 pairs that terminate and originate from Mumbai, till June-end due to poor occupancy as the second wave of Covid-19 has led to stringent restrictions in several cities and states.
WR too has cancelled around eight pair of trains till further notices.
These trains operate between Mumbai to Rajasthan, Gujarat and New Delhi.
A CR official said, “We had cancelled some of these trains till May 10. However, occupancy is likely to remain poor hence there is no point running these services till the demand increases.”
Among the trains cancelled are 01027/8 Dadar-Pandharpur, 01041/2 Dadar Sainagar Shirdi special, 01131/32 Dadar Sainagar Shirdi special, 01139/40 CSMT-Gadag, 01411/2 CSMT-Kolhapur, 02015/6 CSMT-Pune, 02043/4 CSMT-Bidar, 02109/10 CSMT-Manmad, 02111/2 CSMT-Amravati, 02115/6 CSMT-Solapur, 02147/8 Dadar- Sainagar (till June 26) , 02189/90 CSMT-Nagpur, 02207CSMT-Latur, 02271/2 CSMT-Jalna, 01223/4 LTT-Ernakulam.
WR has cancelled 02933/4 Karnavati Express, 9289/90 Bandra Terminus-Mahuva, 09013/14 Bandra Terminus-Bhusaval, 09233/4 Bandra Terminus-Jaipur, 02965/6 Bandra Terminus-Bhagat Ki Kothi, 02929/30 Bandra Terminus-Jaisalmer, 09043/4 (Bandra Terminus-Bhagat Ki Kothi), 02953/4 Mumbai Central-Hazrat Nizamuddin
A WR official said, “Economic activity has come to standstill because of lockdown in several states. Also, Maharashtra and other states have made mandatory negative reports for coronavirus. Those who have planned short trips do not want to go through the hassle of screening and testing, as a positive report will land them in quarantine or in a hospital.”
Both WR and CR officials said they would review the situation and cancel a few trains if the demand continues to be low.
