Bombay HC permits pilot to renew passport for 10 years – Times of India

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Monday raised the spirit of a pilot by directing the Regional Passport Office in Mumbai to renew his passport for 10 years, as against the two years, a magistrate had ordered in November 2019.
The pilot is facing a case of alleged cruelty to wife since 2019 and was thus under the law required to seek a ‘no objection’ order from a court for the passport authorities to renew it.
His lawyer Rachita Dhuru said his petition to quash the FIR is pending and that sans a long-term passport he would be unable to secure a regular job as a commercial pilot.
The court after hearing advocates Shashikant Chaudhari with VG Talreja for the intervenor noted that he had to pay maintenance to estranged wife, children’s school fees as well as instalments towards a house purchased for them.
The HC bench of justice S S Shinde and justice Manish Pitale held that the magistrate had given no reasons for limiting the renewal of the passport only for two years and directed that it be renewed for 10 years.
The court also directed the pilot to pay his installments for the flat for six months and also balance school fees, if any.
