For third straight day, Maharashtra and Mumbai report drop in Covid cases – Times of India

MUMBAI: For the third day in a row the state and the city reported a drop in cases, while there was a slight increase in the Covid-19 fatalities on Saturday.
A total of 2,697 cases and 56 deaths were reported on Saturday taking the total cases in the state to 20,06,354 and total deaths to 50,740.

Meanwhile, Mumbai registered 435 cases on Saturday. The city’s tally of Covid-19 cases since March 2020 has increased to 3.05 lakh.
Municipal health officials added 10 more deaths to take the Covid-19 toll to 11,297 on Saturday.
Five of the victims were over 60 years of age, according to BMC officials.
Dr Rahul Pandit, who is a member of the state government task force on Covid-19, said that while the pandemic is clearly on the decline in Mumbai, some parts of the state are still witnessing an increase in numbers.
“In Mumbai, too, the daily number of cases should have dropped more than the 400-500 at present. However, Mumbai is a crowded city and a number of people who stayed home for the first nine months of the pandemic are venturing out and getting infected,” he said.
Meanwhile, continuing with its trend of recording more daily discharges than daily detections, Maharashtra discharged a total of 3,694 people taking the total discharges to 19.1 lakh and the rate of recovery stood at 95.2%.
With this the active cases in the state also dropped to 43,870, of which 502 were in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, in Thane, 92 Covid-19 cases and two deaths were reported within 24 hours on Saturday.
No cases were reported in the Thane Municipal Corporation’s Diva area.
Since the outbreak, Thane city has reported 58,309 positive patients and 1,294 deaths. Thane city’s rate of recovery has climbed to 97.02%. At present, Thane has 944 active cases.
In Navi Mumbai, 69 positive cases were reported on Saturday, taking the total count to 52,546 so far.
As no deaths were reported in a 24-hour period in Navi Mumbai, the death toll remained at 1,080.
Panvel reported 33 new cases on Saturday, taking the total case tally to 28,509.
With one death reported in Pnvel on Saturday, after nine consecutive days of zero fatality, the death toll reached 620. The recovery rate has improved to 96.55%.
