Mumbai: Speeding Mercedes rams into bike, kills food delivery boy in Andheri – Times of India

MUMBAI: A 19-year-old food app delivery boy died after a speeding Mercedes luxury car rammed into his bike and dragged him around 800 metres before it came to halt near Twinkle Apartment in Andheri (West) early on Friday.
The incident occurred at around 2.30am when the victim, identified as Satish Gupta, was riding the scooter to deliver the food order. The Oshiwara police said that the accused Taiffur Tanvir Shaikh (20) was driving his father’s car was out with his guests to take a spin in western suburbs when he lost control over the car.

After the incident, Shaikh and his two guests rushed Gupta to Kokilaben Hospital, where he was declared bought dead. “Shaikh was arrested from the hospital. We were awaiting for the medical report to check whether he was drunk while driving. The car is registered in Shaikh’s dad’s name, who is a businessman. He has been booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 (A) (causing death due to negligence). He will be produced before the court,” said Oshiwara police senior inspector Dayanand Bangar.
Gupta was the youngest sibling, among five, who resided in Andheri (west). He started working during the lockdown to meet the family livelihood. “My nephew has been working since last six months as food delivery boy. The family condition is very bad. The incident has totally shaken the entire family. The speeding car after crashing into my nephew’s bike dragged him around 800 metres. He has been on night duty when he met with the mishap,” victim’s uncle Saroj told TOI.
A police officer said the overspeeding car lost control and jumped a divider while it tried to overtake another car before hitting victim’s bike. Shaikh told the cops that while trying to overtake another car he lost control and hit the victim’s bike.
