Schools in Mumbai to remain shut till December 31 – Times of India

MUMBAI: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided that all schools in Mumbai will remain closed till December 31 of this year. Earlier, they had permitted schools to resume physical sessions for classes IX to XII from November 23 (Monday), but they revised the decision on Friday.
A BMC official stated that after studying example of Delhi where cases have been increasing suddenly again, BMC has decided to keep schools close till the year end for the safety of the students, their family members and others.
When the school education department had permitted schools to resume physical sessions for classes IX to XII from November 23, they authorised the local bodies to take final decision.
All teachers had to undergo a RT-PCR test, be negative for Covid-19 before coming to school and parent’s consent was mandatory for students to be sent to school.
School education minister Varsha Gaikwad said, “We have allowed schools to reopen from November 23 but it would be up to local bodies to take a decision on reopening based on the on-ground situation. If physical classes don’t resume, online learning will continue. The health and safety of students and teachers are top priority.”
