Mumbai’s COVID-19 cases drop below 12,000; here’s why – Mumbai Mirror

In the last two days, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Mumbai city has come down by nearly 5,000 even though there has been a spike in new cases.

On Tuesday, the number of active cases was 16,374. Today, it has come down to 11,531. Clarifying the drop, the BMC has said that it has removed 3026 and 2826 (Duplicates and OOM cases) on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, due to the reconciliation process.

Meanwhile, there has been a spike of 858 new cases in the city, taking the tally to 2.67 lakh.

However, on a positive note, 2,175 people were also discharged from the hospitals after recoveries. So far, 2.41 lakh people have been discharged.

Krunal Pandya stopped at Mumbai airport over suspicion of being in possession of undisclosed gold

Mumbai Indians cricketer Krunal Pandya was detained at the Mumbai International Airport on Thursday by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

The city also saw the death of 19 patients, taking the overall count to 10,322.

Among those dead, 16 had co-morbidities and 12 were above the age of 60.

Mumbai’s recovery rate is 90 per cent, while the doubling rate has dropped to 240 days.

The number of active containment zones in slums and chawl areas have also come down to below 500.

Maharashtra reported 4,496 new cases, 7809 recoveries and 122 deaths.
