Fire breaks out at City Centre mall in Mumbai – Times of India

MUMBAI: A fire broke out in the City Centre mall at Mumbai Central area on Thursday evening creating panic among the locals and residents of the adjoining building.
People present in the mall were evacuated safely while some residents of a nearby building left their houses for safety following the incident.

Samajwadi Party leader Rais Shaik, who lives in the building along with his family stated that both the structures are on the same plot.
“It was a level-2 fire and smoke created panic among the locals. Few of the building residents vacated their houses for safety after noticing the smoke. Earlier also a fire incident took place in the mall. It has many shops that sell mobile accessories which can create problems during such incidents.”
Mustafa Kapadia, an eyewitness said. “There are many mobile accessories shops in the mall. We heard the sound of exploding batteries. Since it was closing time, there were very few people inside the mall. They came out safely after noticing the fire.”
Local BMC ward officials stated that the fire started from a shop on the second floor but it was difficult to reach the shop due to thick smoke. Firemen managed to open the windows of the mall to release the smoke and got access to the second-floor shop. The firemen are trying to control the blaze with the help of seven fire engines.
