Yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane up to Saturday – Times of India

MUMBAI: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert – heavy rain at isolated places – for Mumbai and Thane on Friday and Saturday. There is an orange alert for Palghar – heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places – on Saturday.
The city began receiving rains early on Friday morning. Among parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region which received heavy rainfall was Chembur which recorded 94 mm rainfall in the six hours ending 3 pm. Parts of Thane and Navi Mumbai recorded between 40 to 70 mm rainfall in the same period.

“Intense spells are being observed in these areas with breaks. A typical rainy day here – cloudy sky, moderate to heavy spells. Satellite/radar images also confirm the same,” said KS Hosalikar, deputy director, western region, IMD.
