The IMD in Mumbai has sounded a red alert for today and tomorrow. Extremely heavy rain is forecast for Mumbai, its suburbs and adjoining areas including Thane. Overnight rains have caused severe waterlogging in many parts of the city. Local train services on all lines and BEST buses too have been affected. The offices too have been shut. In 10 hours, the city recorded a 230 mm rainfall. Meanwhile, BMC chief Iqbal Chahal and Mayor Kishori Pednekar visited various areas to take stock of the situation.

High tide hits Mumbai amid heavy rainfall
Earlier today, high tide hit the shores of Mumbai’s Marine Drive. It was advised by authorities earlier today for people to not venture out near the beaches and other low lying areas as a high tide of 4.51 meters was expected in Mumbai at 12:47 pm. Mumbai has continued to witness heavy rainfall for over 12 hours the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert.
