Unlock 3.0 in Mumbai: Coronavirus cases update and latest news from your city – Times of India

As part of Unlock 3.0, the state government has allowed opening of malls, shopping complexes and market places in non-containment zones from August 5. *The debate over the anti-tuberculosis vaccine’s ability to protect against Covid-19 got a fresh lease with a n American research paper stating that the BCG ‘slows down’ the infection’s spread within the community—at least in the first 30 days.
*The state reported 322 deaths on Saturday, its highest toll for a day so far, taking its total Covid-19 fatalities to 15,316 by breaching the 15,000 mark. Chandrapur, the only district so far in the state to not have had any Covid-19 deaths, reported its first casualty.
*The BMC plans to carry out a city-wide random testing for antibodies to the coronavirus that causes Covid-19. While the plan is still in its infancy, senior BMC officials hoped such a test—by determining how many citizens have been exposed to the virus or have antibodies—would help them plan unlocking strategies for the city.
*Kalyan-Dombivli became the first civic body in the MMR outside Mumbai to cross 20,000 cases, civic officials and doctors felt cases in the region could plateau by end of the month.
