2 dead, 15 injured in two incidents of building collapse in Mumbai; CM Uddhav Thackeray reaches site Fort area – Times Now

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday visited Mumbai’s Fort area where a portion of a building collapsed following heavy rain earlier today. At least two people were killed and 15 others injured in two incidents of building collapse in the city on Thursday.

“Till now, 13 people have been rescued by NDRF team from the site where a portion of Bhanushali building at Fort collapsed following heavy rain earlier today. 2 people have died in the incident. Rescue work is still underway,” news agency ANI reported at about 10.15 pm.

While two people were killed after a chawl (old tenements) collapsed at Abdul Hamid Marg in Malad area, people were feared trapped under debris after part of an old building collapsed in south Mumbai’s Fort area, civic officials said. As many as four people have been rescued and sent to a hospital.

Four fire engines, one rescue van and an ambulance are on the spot. A Search and rescue operation is underway. According to a fire brigade official, a part of the three-storey chawl, located at Malvani gate number 5 in the western suburbs, collapsed around 2.30 pm.

The official said, five to six people were trapped under the debris. Of them, four were rescued and sent to hospitals after being provided first aid.

The city has been experiencing heavy rain since the last couple of days.

In a similar incident, a portion of Bhanushali building in Mumbai’s Fort area has collapsed. A search operation underway and four fire tenders are currently present at the spot, No causality has been reported so far.

A corner portion of the Bhanushali building on Mint Road caved in around 4.45 pm, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said.

Eight fire engines, some rescue vehicles and ambulances were rushed to the spot, he said. The rescue team is trying to ascertain if anyone was trapped under the debris, the official added.

Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant informed that some repair work was underway at the building and the families still in the building will be evacuated.

Building collapses in Thane

Earlier in the day, a portion of a three-storey residential building, which was classified as ‘very dangerous’, collapsed in Thane city today morning after heavy overnight rains, a civic official said.

No casualty was reported in the incident, Thane civic body’s regional disaster management cell chief Santosh Kadam said.

On Wednesday,  two people were injured after a portion of a house collapsed at Pavwala Street in Mumbai. Both of them were taken to a hospital after the incident.

Speaking to ANI, Ajay Jadhav, a fire department official said, “Two people injured after a portion of a house collapsed in Grant Road area of Mumbai, Maharashtra. The injured have been taken to a hospital.”
