Multiple parts of Mumbai enjoyed heavy rains over the past weekend. With the onset of the incoming monsoon, the rains are expected to continue through the week. In fact, the India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for Wednesday.
The weather body forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few regions. The IMD, in its forecast for the next 48 hours, said, “Intermittent moderate rain/showers very likely in city and suburbs. Possibility of very heavy rainfall at isolated places.”
It is believed that the intensity of rains is likely to increase on Tuesday. A red alert has also been issued for Raigad and Ratnagiri for July 15. While South Mumbai may have not witnessed intense spells of rain, Thane and other suburban areas reported heavy rainfall.
On Monday, IMD’s Colaba observatory registered 22.4 mm by 8:30 am, with the IMD labeling it as ‘moderate’. On the contrary, the Santacruz observatory reported 69.6mm of rain, which was tagged as ‘heavy’.
