After bed crisis, Bombay HC says state should increase health budget – Times of India

Bombay high court

MUMBAI: Concerned over increasing Covid-19 cases, the Bombay high court on Friday directed the state government to consider raising its healthcare budget and asked hospitals to give priority to emergency cases among patients.
The HC bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Amjad Sayed dealt with 27 issues mentioned in eight PILs highlighting hardships faced by Covid patients and passed orders (see box). Appreciating steps taken by the BMC and assurances given by the state, the bench expressed “hope and faith” they will comply.
The PILs moved by various NGOs and activists highlighted deteriorating healthcare services due to the lockdown, both Covid and non-Covid patients having to run around for beds, exorbitant charges by private hospitals, and so on.
