Ten cops test positive for Covid-19 after contact with ‘thieves’ in Mumbai – Times of India

MUMBAI/ NAVI MUMBAI: In the time of Covid-19, the cop’s job of nabbing criminals faces a new risk. At least 10 policemen from Mumbai tested positive and 15 from Navi Mumbai have been quarantined after nabbing two gangs of thieves. A lawyer of an accused is also quarantined.
At least 10 policemen, including two officers, of Nehru Nagar police station have tested positive after nabbed an alleged gang of seven break-in thieves who had contracted the virus. The accused have been admitted to JJ Hospital under police watch. The cops are in quarantine.
The police said the gang had broken into an electronic goods store and decamped with goods and cash of a total value of Rs 5.50 lakh.
After the arrest, they ran a Covid-19 test and by the time their test result was out, even the cops had tested positive.
In another case, a 30-year-old arrested in a house break-in case in Taloja tested positive for Covid. Now, 15 cops of Taloja police station and the lawyer of the accused who had all come in contact with the accused have been quarantined at home.
Senior inspector of Taloja police station Kashinath Chavan said, “The arrested man showed Covid-19 symptoms and so a test was done and its result has shown positive. He was given bail at the police station and was admitted to a district hospital.”
The 15 cops have been home quarantined at home. “Though asymptomatic, they are high-risk contacts. They have been advised to get tested.”
