Mumbai: Dharavi sees drop in new COVID-19 cases

Dharavi on Monday saw a drop in its daily tally of new coronavirus cases as the slum-cluster reported 12 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally to 1,924. The curve of COVID-19 positive cases in the Dharavi slum has started showing a declining trend.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said that the Centre is ready to provide all assistance to Maharashtra to fight COVID-19 and further targeted the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the state for its “incapability” to handle the crisis.

“We are ready to provide all assistance to the Maharashtra government to fight COVID-19. Maharashtra government should see how Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka governments contained COVID-19. Isn’t it fair to say that the COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra shows the government’s incapability? I saw on TV that actor Sonu Sood, who is helping stranded workers in this crisis, is being criticised,” Singh said.

Mission Begin Again

Mumbai is almost back on its feet. With lockdown restrictions eased, residents geared up to get back to their day-to-day routines, and it did not take long. Over the weekend, streets embraced the usual traffic, iconic landmarks such as Marine Drive and Juhu Beach saw massive crowds, and stand alone shops braced for opening their doors once again. While it may be a sigh of relief for many, COVID-19 cases in Mumbai continue to surge.

On Tuesday, Maharashtra hit the 3,000 mark on Tuesday for the second time. The state reported 3,007 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, out of which 1,420 belong to Mumbai alone. Currently, the state is home to 43,591 active cases. Photo by Sachin Haralkar/MMCL
