Covid19 LIVE Updates: Mumbai nears 20,000 cases; Lockdown extended till May 31 – Mumbai Mirror

On Sunday, Mumbai reported 1,571 coronavirus cases, of which 44 are from Dharavi slum area, taking the total number of patients to 19,967 until now. The virus also claimed the lives of 38 people in a single day which took the death toll in the Maximum City to 734.Maharashtra on Sunday recorded the highest figure of new Covid-19 cases (2,347), and the second-highest figure of 63 deaths, exactly 60 days after the first Covid-19 death was recorded in Mumbai on March 17.In a move to prevent further migration of labourers from Maharashtra, the state government has given permission to 65,000 industries in green and orange zones, which are relatively less affected by the coronavirus, to start functioning in the next few days. All major and small industries in Maharashtra have remained shut for more than a month due to the nationwide lockdown.The nationwide lockdown got extended by another couple of weeks until May 31 as the country continues to witness new highs in the number of coronavirus cases every day.
