Mumbai: Fire brigade starts disinfecting civic hospitals – Times of India

MUMBAI: From Tuesday morning, Mumbai Fire Brigade began sanitisation of civic hospitals in the city in the wake of Covid-19. Priority was given to civic hospitals, which are being used as quarantine facilities. A slum in the eastern suburbs, where a house help had tested positive, was also sanitised.
Chief fire officer P S Rahangdale had on March 23 issued an order for sanitisation of municipal hospitals, ward offices and the civic headquarters urgently. The sanitisation is being carried using quick response vehicles (QRV) and sodium hypochlorite, diluted with water, is being sprayed.
Fire brigade officials sanitised KEM hospital in Parel too. “The QRV uses less water, in the form of droplets, but the pressure is high. We generally use the vehicle to douse flames confined to an area. We chose hospitals as suspected patients have been visiting them regularly,” said Rahangdale.
“There are community toilets in slums and public toilets in crowded places in some areas, and people have no option but to use them. They are most prone to infection,” said Kiran Dighavkar, BMC G north ward officer.
