Cabbie held for raping 16-year-old in Mumbai – Times of India

MUMBAI: A 23-year-old taxi driver was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl. He was booked under the IPC sections and the Pocso Act.
Aarey police said the teenager, a college student, knew the accused, Bannu Yadav, from her hometown in Uttar Pradesh. They suspect Yadav followed her to Mumbai. The incident was reported by the girl’s sister.
According to the police, Yadav frequently visited the girl’s home in UP. She came to the city with her sister last week, and was staying in Goregaon (E). Yadav, who was living with his cousin, kept track of her whereabouts and tried to meet her on several occasions. When the girl was alone at her place, he sexually assaulted her. The girl did not say anything about the incident, but when her sister learnt about it, she approached the police on February 26.
When Yadav found out that a case had been filed against him, he tried to flee the city. The police tracked his phone and found that he had boarded the Kamayani Express to UP. A trap was laid at Kasara station with the help of Kalyan railway police, and Yadav was arrested.
(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
